Week 1—Master the Model Conceptually
Tasks:
- Understand what each layer does
- Learn real-world analogy (package delivery)
- Memorize layer names and numbers
- Know one protocol per layer

Week 2—Deep Dive on Layers 1-2
Tasks:
- Study cable types and characteristics
- Understand MAC addresses
- Learn Ethernet frame structure
- Practice identifying MAC addresses on your devices
Time: 3-4 hours
Week 3—Layers 3-4: Routing and Transport
Tasks:
- Understand IP routing basics
- Study TCP vs. UDP differences
- Learn common ports
- Trace route from your computer to google.com (tracert/traceroute command)
Time: 3-4 hours
Week 4—Layer 5 and Troubleshooting
Tasks:
- Understand common Layer 5 protocols
- Practice troubleshooting by layer
- Run network diagnostics (ipconfig, ping, nslookup)
- Create simple network diagram of your home/office
